Implementation of DART project Phase 2

On September 30, 2015 the Africa Development Bank approved a loan to support Tanzania Government’s efforts to decongest the city of Dar es salaam, where on 23rd October, 2015 The Government of Tanzania entered into the agreement with the Bank to fund the project:

This project is subdivided in two Lots: Lot 1 deals with Road works and Lot 2 deals with Building works. Supervising consultants are M/s BOTEK Bosphorus Technical Consulting Corporation of Turkey in association with Apex Engineering Co. Ltd of Tanzania for road works and Interconsult Tanzania Limited for Building works.

The contractor for lot 1 is M/s Sinohydro construction corporation from China and for lot 2 the contractor was China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). The progress of works for Road works until July is 66.61% while for Building works is 100% complete and handed over to the client.

Implementation of DART project Phase 3

The Government of Tanzania has secured funds from the International Development Association (IDA) under World Bank towards the implementation of Dar es Salaam Urban Transport Improvement Project (DUTP) and intends to use part of the proceeds of this credit to cover eligible expenses under the contract for constructions of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, phase three of DART project.

This project is subdivided in two Lots: Lot 1 deals with Road works and Lot 2 deals with Building works. Supervising consultants are M/s SMEC International (Pty) Ltd in Association with M/s Mhandisi Consultancy Ltd and M/s Habconsult Ltd for road works and UNITEC Civil Consultants Ltd for Building works.

The contractor for lot 1 is M/s Sinohydro construction corporation from China who started on 1st August, 2022 therefore right now they are under mobilization period. For the second lot the tender is being finalized before it is advertised.

Implementation of DART project Phase 4

For Phase 4, the Consultant M/s Kunhwa Engineering & Consulting Co., Ltd from Korea in association with AQGOLA Engineering & Management Services LTD, from Tanzania were procured through TANROADS on early 2019 to undertake the detailed infrastructure design for Phase 4 whereby the assignment started since April, 2019. The Consultant has already submitted the Final Detailed Design Report which is being reviewed before the construction tender is advertised.

Implementation of DART project Phase 5

For Phase 5, the Consultant M/s Kunhwa Engineering & Consulting Co., Ltd from Korea in association with AQGOLA Engineering & Management Services LTD, from Tanzania were procured through TANROADS to undertake the detailed infrastructure design for Phase 5, the assignment which started since on mid-2018. The Consultant has already submitted the Final Detailed design reports which has been reviewed and comments share to Consultant for incorporation. The government of Tanzania has secured loan financing for construction of BRT Phase 5 from French Development Agency (AFD) in February 2022 which gives the green light for procurement of contractor to start once the design is finalized. Currently RAP procedures are finalized before the construction tender is advertised.

Implementation of Park and ride facilities at Kimara

The construction of Park-and-ride facilities aims at addressing the long awaited desire of improving the accessibility and transfer to DART bus services at Kimara Terminal. Also it is important note that during inaugurations ceremony of DART system Infrastructure and Bus operations on 25th January, 2017 His Excellency Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli President of the United Republic of Tanzania insisted on the urgency and importance of having a park and ride and daladala Bus Stops facility at Kimara and therefore ordered TANROADS to provide a site for construction of a Park and Ride at Kimara Mwisho.

The government of the United Republic of Tanzania through Tanzania National Roads Agency has already done the detailed design of Park and Ride facility around BRT Phase 1 Kimara Terminal via financing from the World Bank under the project from Improvement of BRT Phase 1.
